Through public outreach during the holiday season, Veterans Service Organizations, local businesses, individuals, and families are encouraged to make donations to the Tree of Stars. As donations are received, beautiful glass stars representing different support levels begin to transform the Christmas tree in the Home’s lobby into a beautiful focal point. Funds raised are then used to purchase a Christmas gift for each of the Home’s 200 Veterans. Gift are wrapped and hand delivered, along with a visit from Santa and songs by carolers. The gifts and merriment make the holiday season a little brighter, especially for individuals who might not receive anything at all otherwise. Veterans who are new to the Home and Veterans’ family members are especially appreciative of the gesture. In years past, gifts have included hat and sweatshirt sets, jogging suits, jackets and fuzzy slippers. The program’s annual goal is $10000, which allows the Home to purchase one $50 gift for each Veteran. Click here to donate to the Tree of Stars.

The Veterans Assistance League sponsors an annual Family and Friends Day event to bring the Home’s 200 Veterans, their families, friends and Staff from all departments together for an afternoon of food, fun and entertainment. Guests enjoy attractions for all ages, including horse drawn wagon rides, Army helicopter and Humvee displays, family photos, musical guests, an old fashioned cake walk, and a fun zone complete with clowns, carnival games and a bouncy castle for the kids. Door prizes and a hearty meal are also part of the event. Feedback from the event has been tremendous. Family members particularly enjoy visiting their loved ones and greeting the staff who care for them on a daily basis.
